How to buy Fusion studio & Resolve studio

Postby MAW »

Hello everyone. I have been trying to buy fusion studio for a long time but I've always been extremely confused. However, I have finally bought it and now I want to help anyone who is confused just like how I used to be. Fusion is a very strange software when it comes to purchasing.

Now with fusion 17, many things have changed so the way to buy it now is different than how it used to be. Here is what you need to know about the online activation key:

1- You will buy the DaVinci Resolve studio activation key. The code you will get can be used to get Fusion studio (yes the standalone) too! That's two separate apps with the same key.

2- The key has two different seats which means you can use it on two different machines at the same time. You can also deactivate from a machine in order to switch to a new one at any time. Maybe one for your PC and another one for one of your friends then you can make him deactivate it so you can give it to another one!

3- You wont only get resolve studio and fusion studio. You will also get the speed editor as well which is a tool made for the cut page in resolve (some websites don't include it)

4- What I've said so far ONLY WORKS WITH VERSION 17 AND ABOVE.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How to buy

1- Go to this link https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/produc ... /howtobuy/

2- You will find a list of Authorized Online Resellers depending on the location you select. I don't think the location has to be in your country but you can always check.

3- You will find many online websites listed. You just need to choose whatever website you like and order the code from them.

4- After getting the activation key go to BMD's website and download the studio versions of both programs. Click on download not buy remember "buy" will transfer you to the list of resellers. Click on "Download" then select the studio version.

5- You will be required to put the activation code along with some other information. If you don't want to register, you can click on "Download Only" on the bottom left corner.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

I hope this can help some people who are confused just like how I used to be. I really have no idea why it's this complicated. Anyways thank you for reading and good luck!

OK, the licensing situation is a bit complex - and very poorly explained, as you found.

Here's the summary:

1. Resolve Studio Activation Key = provides two simultaneous seats for Resolve Studio only. No Fusion Studio. Same applies to the Mac App Store version of Resolve Studio (though that may be only one seat, not sure.)

2. Resolve Studio USB dongle = provides one seat for Resolve Studio and Fusion Studio. Can run both software on one machine. Enables running old versions of Resolve (eg back to version 8), but not older versions of Fusion Studio (can only run Fusion Studio 16 and later).

3. Fusion Studio USB dongle = provides one seat for Resolve Studio and Fusion Studio. Can run both software on one machine. Also provides unlimited network render nodes, ie allowing local network rendering between the Fusion Studio machine, and unlimited Render Nodes. Can run Resolve 15 and 16, but not older, but can run Fusion Studio back to version 7 or 8 I think.

So, if you have the Resolve Studio dongle, you're in luck: You can download Fusion Studio 16.2.4 from Blackmagic Support and use it today.

If however you have the Resolve Studio activation key, I'm afraid you cannot run Fusion Studio. You will have to pay again, and buy a dongle.

If you do need to buy a new license dongle, I strongly recommend to buy the Fusion Studio dongle because it provides the unlimited network rendering, plus it can run Fusion Studio 9, which has a much more flexible UI. There are quite a number of Fusion experts who still use Fusion 9 for this reason. I'm not saying you'll definitely want to use Fusion 9 instead of 16, as there are performance and other benefits in 16. But it's good to at least have the option to run older Fusion versions.

TLDR: If you have a license dongle, you can run Fusion Studio 16. If you don't, you can't.

Hello. If we install v17 and if we activate resolve with an activation key, fusion automatically activates upon installation. Is that possible with fusion 16 version?i came to know that it is possible only through dongle version of fusion that we run both resolve and fusion. Let me know if anybody knows about it.Thanks in advance.

That is correct. The feature was added in v17. All prior versions of Fusion Studio require a hardware dongle. Version 16 can use a Resolve dongle, but Versions 7-9 can only use the Fusion one.

Many of us here are not at all aware of what's going on with Resolve (or Apple products). Could you provide a link to the discussion of this issue, please?

Blackmagic Design Fusion Studio (With Dongle)

Description

What’s New in Fusion 17
Compositions you create on the Fusion page can now be saved as a template and used on the edit or cut page! New animation curve modifiers can be used to automatically retime animations when you change their duration in an edit. Audio playback with waveform display makes it easier to create precisely timed animations, there are shared markers with the edit page and more. In addition, 27 GPU accelerated Resolve FX have been added to the Fusion page, including the noise reduction and sharpening tools from the color page! New node view bookmarks make it easy to navigate large comps, the toolbar can be customized with your favorite tools, and vertical layouts are supported in the node editor.

Build Your Own Effects with Customizable Templates
Fusion effect templates let you create any effect imaginable and apply them to clips on the edit and cut pages! Simply build a composition, save it as a macro, define the parameters you want to make visible, and save it in the correct location. Just drag Fusion effect from the library onto any clip!

Automatically Retime Animations
Animation curve modifiers let you easily stretch or squish keyframes and add bounce, mirror or loop animations that automatically change when the duration of the composition changes. When you drop Fusion titles or effects onto the timeline and change its duration, the animation adjusts accordingly!

Animations
The Fusion page can now playback audio from the edit or cut page timeline. You can choose a mix down from the timeline, or you can listen to the source clip’s audio. Waveforms are displayed in the keyframe editor, allowing you to create precisely timed animations that are in sync with the audio!

Custom Vector Shapes
Vector shape tools make it easier to create motion graphics! You get ellipsis, rectangles, polygons and stars, along with boolean operators for combining shapes to create intricate designs. Grid, jitter, offset and transform, let you customize animations. Shapes can also be used as particle sources!

GPU Accelerated Resolve FX
The Fusion page has 27 new GPU accelerated Resolve FX. This includes the color page’s noise reduction and sharpening tools, along with lens blur, light effects, color effects, revival image restoration tools and more. You also get texture and stylize, temporal effects, warping and beauty tools.

Personalize Your Workflow
Node tree bookmarks let you quickly navigate to any part of the node tree in a large composition. Customizable toolbars let you quickly switch toolbars based on the current task. Vertical node tree layouts give you more room to view the spline and keyframe editors when creating animations, and more.

Nodes are a Much Faster Way to Work!
Nodes are incredibly easy to use, especially as scenes become more complex. Fusion’s nodes are small icons that represent effects, filters and other image processing operations. Nodes can be easily connected together to build larger and more complex visual effects. Tools, images, and objects can be combined in any order to create unlimited visual effects. Simply click on a node to quickly adjust any single part of your project. That’s much faster than a timeline based tool because you don’t need to hunt through nested stacks of confusing layers and filters!

Get the most Powerful VFX Software Available!
Whether you need to pull a key, track objects, retouch images, animate titles, or create amazing particle effects, Fusion has a massive toolset that lets you tackle the most demanding jobs. You get a true 3D workspace along with tools for compositing, keying, painting, animation, virtual reality, stereoscopic 3D and more. Fusion combines effects and motion graphics, along with 3D modeling and rendering into a single toolset. That means you can import and render 3D models and scenes with the rest of your composite in Fusion. You don’t have to pre‑render assets or transfer between multiple applications!

Animated Text
Powerful character generators let you create incredible animated 2D or 3D text and title sequences in any language!

3D Motion Graphics
Create advanced motion graphics with incredible depth using Fusion’s infinite 3D workspace to seamlessly combine vector graphics, live action and 3D objects!

3D Particle Systems
Create amazing 3D animated particle effects with real world physics like gravity, wind, and collision so particles can interact with objects in your scene.

Scripting and Automation
Built on an extensible and customizable framework, Fusion allows game developers, 3D feature film animators and media artists to use its open architecture to extend their own internal systems! Fusion supports both Lua and Python, a popular and intuitive scripting solution used by animators worldwide. You can save time by writing scripts to create custom tools, pass data back and forth between Fusion and other applications, automate repetitive tasks, and even add entirely new features!

GPU Accelerated Workflow
Fusion is extremely fast and responsive enough to be used in high pressure, client driven sessions. With its Metal, CUDA and OpenCL GPU acceleration, you get instant feedback while you work so you can see exactly what you’re doing. Fusion 17 features more GPU pipelining than ever so whether you’re working alone or with a client, you get the real time control you need. That means you’ll be able to spend more time being creative and less time waiting! Fusion is so fast that you can even work in VR while wearing a headset and still get over 90 frames per second of interactivity!

Unlimited Render Power
Fusion has the world’s fastest production quality render engine! You can even distribute your render jobs across an unlimited number of networked computers for incredible performance, at no additional cost! There’s no “per node” render license fees. Simply install it on as many render nodes as you need! That means you can render complex scenes incredibly fast to meet the intense deadlines of production, without having to sacrifice creativity or quality.

Fusion Connect
Fusion Connect lets DaVinci Resolve and Avid Media Composer editors take advantage of Fusion’s massive visual effects and motion graphics toolset, right from their timelines! Editors can select individual clips or layers of clips and send them to Fusion. A new Fusion composition is automatically created and linked dynamically back to the timeline. You can work on the VFX and motion graphics yourself or, if you’re on shared storage, let another artist work on them for you. Once the Fusion composition is rendered, the shots are automatically updated back in the DaVinci Resolve or Avid Media Composer timelines!

Collaborate with Large Teams
When you’re working with a large creative team, DaVinci Resolve’s color management and API scripting allow automated creation of timelines for review and approval of VFX. This means shot review, storyboarding, version and annotation can be easily be shared with everyone on the team. Fusion Studio also features a bin server which means to see common assets you don't need to copy, paste and track multiple elements.

Things got a lot better in v17. Now Fusion Studio will open with the Resolve Studio license key. I'm using it that way myself.

Specifically:
  • A license key gives you two activations, which are per-machine.
  • Once a given machine is activated in either Resolve Studio or Fusion Studio, it can also be activated for the other, without using up an additional activation.
  • So if you have two machines, both can be running Resolve Studio and Fusion Studio simultaneously.
  • All features of Fusion Studio 17 are enabled by activation key, including unlimited network Fusion Render Nodes
  • The render node doesn't ask for an activation key. Instead it checks the network for the 'Fusion Server' process. If one is found and is licensed (either by dongle or activation key), the render node will run.
  • Because activation key licensing was only added in Fusion Studio v17, the one limitation of buying the activation key is that you won't be able to run Fusion Studio Blackmagic Fusion Studio License key prior to v17. Whereas if you bought a Fusion Studio dongle, you could.
Overall the advantages of license keys - two machines instead of one; can't lose it; can't break it; doesn't need a Blackmagic Fusion Studio License key port - far outweigh that one downside IMHO. There's not really any reason to run Fusion Studio 16 that I can think of, Blackmagic Fusion Studio License key. A lot of people still prefer version 9 for its much more powerful and flexible UI. But there's been a number of new features and performance improvements since 9, so even the stalwarts are tending to upgrade now.

It sony vegas pro animation like another bonus of v17 implementation is that Fusion Studio stand-alone now works with a Resolve Blackmagic Fusion Studio License key license!

Major thumbs up to BMD for that!

When many other companies are trying to gouge customers through subscription models and "pay-for-upgrade" models, BMD has gone in the complete opposite direction to not only give free updates, but give the customer back more than what they paid for!

Does Fusion Studio get its own 2 installation allotment on this same activation code, in addition to Resolve Studio's 2 installation allotment, or do they both share the 2 activation slots?

Not trying Blackmagic Fusion Studio License key because I don't want to have to go through reactivating software in the case that there are only 2 slots for both software packages. The activation keys have to be typed in, and I hate that enough for this to not be worth it; considering Fusion Studio is 95% redundant if you have Resolve Studio.

Fusion Studio is of no worth to me if I have to give up a Resolve activation (Desktop + Laptop) to run it on the same activation code.

It's the same 2x activations.

If you're using it on the same computer as the activated instance of Resolve Studio, it's using the same license.

Let me try in simpler English.

1x Desktop Computer has BOTH Resolve Studio AND Fusion Studio installed. License was activated using Resolve. Fusion Studio also works on this Desktop without having to deactivate/reactivate.

1x Laptop Computer has BOTH Resolve Studio AND Fusion Studio installed, Blackmagic Fusion Studio License key. License was activated using Resolve. Fusion Studio also works on this Laptop without having to deactivate/reactivate.

Clear and simple don't have the same meanings.

Your English was simple enough, but the wording was ambiguous in both of those cases.

What you write contradicts what the dev wrote up-thread.

Okay, so I tested this now that it isn't 3AM.

RishkaDriver is right, Activation Coes are functionally like product bundles (Resolve + Fusion Studio) in iLok License Manager with 2 Machine Authorizations.

If you have Resolve Studio Activated on two machines, then Fusion Studio will piggyback off of those Activations. It will find the license and use it.

If you try to install either on a third machine, it will deactivate the first activated instance of either and activate the third machine:

Desktop and Laptop with Resolve + Fusion Studio = Fine
Desktop with Resolve Studio and Laptop with Fusion Studio = Fine
Desktop with Resolve + Fusion Studio, Laptop with Resolve Studio, and iMac with Fusion Studio = Not Fine, as that is 3 Machines

One activation works for both, but both either or both can only be activated on two machines total.

If you run a two-machine setup (Desktop + Laptop), then you can install and activate both on both machines.

I'd like to correct my original post.

It is indeed two activations at a time, but an activation is per machine, and is shared between Fusion Studio and Resolve Studio on that machine.

So you can activate and run up to two instances of each app (one on each machine) simultaneously. A third activation will remove credentials from both. This is in line with Asim and Nate's observations.

Apologies for the confusion.

No, but there is a hack, check YT. The old name was Fusion Connect.
The software may be free, but the hardware needed for smooth performance is not.

I have both Resolve Studio and Fusion Studio installed on my Macbook only but I can't run both app simultaneously. I need to key in the activation (Fusion Studio) when the other one (Resolve Studio) in on. Any ideas?

Hi Guys,
I have 1 laptop + 1 desktop pc.
Could please confirm methat all this is still true ?

If i buy one license of Davinci Resolve Studio.
I will be able to use 1 instance of Resolve Studio and 1 instance of Fusion Studio at the same time on either my laptop OR desktop ?

I will also be able to access unlimited render nodes for Fusion ?

Thanks for clarification.
Cheers

The answer is Yes
- Resolve Studio give access to Fusion Studio standalone
- Both can work at the same time on the same computer
- it also gives unlimited render node for fusion
Great deal.

PostTue Mar 08, 2022 1:24 Blackmagic Fusion Studio License key works for me, but George Choi seems to have a problem. I have one M1 laptop and one iMac running.
I can't comment on render nodes from personal experience.

If you can run them at in parallel depends on the hardware resources, heaps of RAM in particular.
I wouldn't recommend ant download manager latest version software may be free, but the hardware needed for smooth performance is not.
